The moment you’re done with your research and have made a shortlist of candidate software, start to compare their features, taking note of the system that is likely to give you the best benefits.

4. Talk to each prospect on your shortlist.

Aside from features, there are plenty of other things you must compare when checking out different POS systems. For instance, are they certified for system installation, staff training and ongoing technical support? You don’t want to compromise on your business.

5. Choose a vendor that provides highest quality tech support.

No matter how good a retail system is, you will not go very far with it without high-quality and reliable tech support. Otherwise, be ready for grief and stress. Of course, cost is also a factor. Obviously, the vendor you bought your POS system from should also provide your tech support as they are naturally the most knowledgeable about the system. It is just illogical to look elsewhere.

6. Choose the right software and hardware.

You can choose a complicated, industry-grade system that is ‘retail-hardened,’ or a system as simple as a typical desktop computer and monitor. In any case, the most important thing to consider is that your POS software is an exact match to your business needs.
